Your Patient Journey: From Enquiry to Surgery

The 7 steps to your new procedure

1. Enquiry: The First Step

Well done! You’ve taken the plunge and reached out to us. You have probably been considering surgery for a long time and the first part of your journey begins with a single step, and for patients considering surgery, that step is the initial enquiry. This is often made through a phone call (01761422220), email (info@anthonymacquillan.com), or online form (https://anthonymacquillan.com/contact/) , and it’s the first opportunity for patients to go through their area of concern and expectations for surgery. Whether you’re exploring options or ready to take the leap, our approachable and compassionate team is here to guide you.

2. Talking with Gemma, Your Patient Co-ordinator

Our dedicated team is here to listen, answer any immediate questions, and ensure you feel supported from the very beginning. Once we recieve your enquiry you’ll speak with our dedicated Patient Co-ordinator, Gemma.

Gemma is a key figure in your journey, offering personalized support and answering any detailed questions you might have. She’ll explain the next steps, discuss available procedures, and ensure you have all the information needed to feel confident. Her role is to simplify the process, keep you informed, and help you feel at ease. Gemma’s approachable nature makes her an invaluable part of our team, and she’s always happy to provide guidance tailored to your individual circumstances.

3. Meeting the Surgeon: Your First Consultation

The first consultation with your surgeon, Dr Anthony MacQuillan is a significant milestone. During this meeting, you’ll discuss your goals, medical history, and expectations in detail. Anthony will assess your suitability for the procedure and outline what you can realistically achieve. This is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions and address any concerns you may have. Transparency and trust are essential at this stage, and we prioritize making sure you feel fully informed and comfortable. By the end of this session, you’ll have a clearer understanding of the path forward. Please feel free to bring pictures of what you are looking to achieve post operatively and be open in your discussions.

4. Seeing the Surgeon Again: The Second Consultation

The second consultation is designed to ensure you feel fully prepared and confident about your decision. By this point, you may have reflected on your initial meeting and have additional questions or thoughts to discuss. Anthony will revisit key aspects of your procedure and finalize any remaining details. This stage is about refining the plan and ensuring all your needs and concerns have been addressed. It’s a collaborative process, ensuring you feel empowered and ready for the next steps in your journey.

5. Pre-Operative Assessment with the Nurse

Before your surgery, you’ll meet with one of our experienced nurses for a pre-operative assessment. This is an essential step to confirm your readiness for the procedure and ensure your safety. The nurse will review your medical history, conduct necessary tests (most likely have some blood test and possible ECG), and provide clear instructions to prepare you for surgery. This is also an opportunity to discuss post-operative care and what to expect during recovery. Our nurses are not only highly skilled but also deeply caring, ensuring you feel supported and reassured as your surgery day approaches.

6. Anaesthetist Consultation and Additional Tests (If Needed)

In some cases, you may need to meet with our anaesthetist or undergo further medical tests. This step is tailored to ensure the highest level of safety and care based on your unique needs. The anaesthetist will discuss the type of anaesthesia to be used, your health history, and address any concerns you may have about the process. If additional tests are required, we’ll arrange these seamlessly to minimize any stress. These measures ensure that you’re in optimal condition for surgery and that every detail has been carefully considered.

7. Surgery Day: Your Transformation Begins

The big day has arrived, and our team is here to support you every step of the way. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be greeted with care and professionalism, ensuring you feel at ease. The surgical team will review the plan once more, answer any last-minute questions, and guide you through the process. The operation itself is performed with precision and expertise, ensuring the highest standard of care. After the surgery, you’ll begin your recovery journey, supported by our dedicated post-operative team to help you heal comfortably and confidently.

For most of our procedures you will stay in the hopsital overnight and be discharged able to go home the next day (For all abdominoplasty procedures you have a minimum 2 night stay at the hospital).

Supporting You Beyond Surgery

While surgery is a transformative moment, your journey doesn’t end there. Our team is committed to supporting you throughout your recovery and beyond. You’ll have follow-up appointments to monitor your progress, address any questions, and ensure you’re healing as expected.

We will see you at 1 week, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months and 12 months as a minimum. (Dependant on procedure you may be seen at 48-72 hours post surgery for stitch removal). All of these appointment will be discussed and booked in with you with our nurse, Lucy.

We’re here to celebrate your results and provide ongoing care, ensuring you feel satisfied and confident in your decision. Your well-being is our priority, and we take pride in being part of your journey from the first enquiry to the moment you achieve your goals.

This process is designed to prioritise your comfort, safety, and satisfaction at every stage.

We’re honoured to be part of your journey and look forward to helping you achieve your dreams.
